A Vision For The Future

The issue, when Donald Trump claimed that he is smart for paying as little tax as he can, isn’t whether he satisfied the minimal legal requirements but if he has a better perspective. Even if, in refusing to release his tax returns, he isn’t hiding any illegal behavior, he nonetheless seems to believe that his personal enrichment is more important than our social conditions. Such a perspective might be good for his image as a businessman, but it might not be one voters want for our political leader. While we might be able to understand why someone would be inclined to act in his or her individual interest, we should hope for someone who motivates us to satisfy our shared social obligations and contribute proportionately to a greater good.
